The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman
by Timothy Ferriss
by Timothy Ferriss
I'd barely scratched the surface of this one before loaning it to my counselor, but I look forward to reading more of it. The thrust of this book is to go past the 80/20 rule (that 20% of behavior or effort that yields the best 80% of a desired result) and find the 2% "short cuts" that get you results even faster.
Be warned that Ferriss is a bit of a freak (in the performance artist "freak show" sense). Many of his experiences are better watched than reproduced, but his book is a good starting point for thinking outside the box on your own life: diet, exercise, sex, sleep, injury recovery, and so on. He describes his own experiences in each area, and provides links to resources. Some are fairly low-risk, like his "slo-carb" diet. His "how to get by on two hours sleep a day" carry more risk of catastrophe. But in evry case he leads from the front - asks a question, gets an answer, tests it out, and explains the results on his own poor experimented self.
It's a big book. Youll probably gain muscle and lose weight just by hefting this bad boy in your backpack for a few weeks. But it's an entertaining read, even if you don't try this at home. Ignore his advice without guilt, because he's so out there.
