This book focuses on social learning and cognition (SLC) theory, which the authors posit is a step forward from social learning, cognition, and cognitive theories. The new paradigm they describe is that of "superleadership"; managing subordinates so they are better able to manage themselves. Self-management involves setting one's own goals, and self-review, among other skills.
Although I've not read the Manz and Sims book, "Superleadership: Leading Others to Lead Themselves," my guess is that this book ("New Leadership Pardigm) sets forth the theoretical basis and research which supports their assertions, while the "Superleadership" book is designed more as a hands-on guidebook for organizational leaders and managers.
