Consider me officially a fan of Dennis Lehane. If he can spin a tale good enough so that I get past the first chapter (baseball, Babe Ruth) and the second chapter (policeman's boxing match), neither of which I'm interested in, then he's got a way with words. The story takes place in Boston, 1917 - 1918. It covers the policeman's strike, the great molassas spill, the flu pandemic, and how unions got their feet under them and started growing.

I don't know much about this time in our history, so that in itself was fascinating. Highly recommended, especially in our current climate of political revolutions and state legislature fights over the collective bargaining power of the unions.
