There's definitely valid criticisms that can be leveled at this book - Carrie as Robin is a bit random, the slang hasn't aged well, and the art is only serviceable. However, Miller does craft strong imagery here - his repeated bat motif linked to Batman's origin is powerful, Gordon is a strong character, and Alfred definitely has some choice snappy patter. In its emphasis on '80's themes, this reminded me of The Watchmen - which isn't a bad thing at all.
