A couple drops everything and goes around the world sans air travel. At first I found the narrative troubling, because I was more interested in the destinations as opposed to the transitions. However, I soon found myself more swept up in the perspectives of these two and their responses to the people and places they encountered, than I was in learning about the countries themselves. While I was definitely sold on some of the slow treks taken by Rebecca and Seth, such as the trains and bike trips, I probably won't be exchanging a handy transatlantic flight for cabin on cargo freighter any time soon. This book provided some much needed mental escape for me during some dreary, cold midwestern weeks, so for that I am greatly thankful.
