** spoiler alert **
Finally! I've had this book for years and I just this summer picked it up to read it. This author won my attention by doing something completely ballsy (killing off the first person POV, present tense narrator in the first section, and then making someone else the first person present narrator, intercut with other third person past chapters).
It was a good, fast-paced book with a lot of tension. Surprisingly, I didn't have a problem with the first and third combined POVs, but with the POV shifting in the third person sections. Hopping between paragraphs gives me a headache.
Also, a chunk of this book was set in South Dakota, which cracked me up. The author slightly changed a couple of names (the town of Leed instead of Lead, Homestead Mine instead of Homestake), and it took me a while to not read those as typos. The rest of it is set in DC and is an incredibly detailed and interesting setting.
Also, one moment of nitpicky, wtf is a "flat South Dakota accent"?
