I am definitely finished with this book. I read the end. Granted I skimmed there because I wanted the blasted thing to be over. Two stars because the writing itself was good. Otherwise this book drove me up the fricking wall. The narrator was annoying, made stupid decisions, endangered her son by said decisions and prejudged him in a really irritating way. Yes, the message is important but I don't think this story serves that importance very well.

One major gripe I had about this was that she mentions Asian's twice and twice they are obviously foreign. Listen, Mrs. Narrator, just because someone is Asian does not necessarily make him an immigrant. Again, just because your Korean pedicurist smiles and nods while she does your toes does not mean she "obviously doesn't understand English". You fail. Go back home until you can learn some manners.

Ahmom While that is true, it's actually what most people think.

Lisa Wow. I find it interesting that the one thing you took from this story was the way in which the main character has a three minute encounter with a Korean pedicurist. I think you may need to either go back and read the book again or grow up. It's painfully obvious when someone is as idealistic as you are they have no clue of what real life is about.
