Let me be honest: I never read this book when I was a child. I wish I had. My daughter, who is four, loves Madeline.

The book told in short lines across the page has sparked evening conversations about France, surgery and just exactly what is a "girl's school" amongst other topics. She can recite the sentences of the book on her own.

She's in love with the character illustrations; she stops me often while reading to view the small details of the illustrated rooms or the expressions of the girls.

At the time of this review, Madeline has been on our daughter's book shelf for the past year and it is still her favorite book to read before bedtime.
