Valerie I think you'd have to start with at least one class in how to analyze a professional paper. In truth, I think people should be required to have at least one course in rhetorical forensics every year from kindergarten on.

In The Silent Stars Go By, a Healer explains that he's studying a foreign language--the technical jargon of engineers. Perhaps we all should.
