While this isn't exactly the caliber that I would generally expect from a Newbery book (especially given the number of twists that could be detected from early on), it was still a good read with a great cast of characters! Abilene is infectious in hard-nosed sort of way, Jinx is a doll in that glad-I-don't-have-to-deal-with-him sort of way, and Shady, while he is certainly not an original character, is well done.

2011 Newbery Winner

I forgot to grab the exact quote before turning in the book, but there is a great quote to the effect that memories are like sunshine--they make you happy (feel good? keep you warm?) but you can't hold them in your hand.
