Lenny is a bright, cheerful, curious nine-year-old, with no social skills at all, and thus no friends. Finally he starts meeting with a counselor who appreciates him, and meets a boy with leukemia who shares his interests. Told in deceptively spare language, it is ultimately very effective and touching as Lenny grows and gains empathy.
