I enjoyed re-visiting Lord John, and the story was OK but overall the book was just not that great. It was short (esp by Galbadon standards), otherwise it would have been a much more painful waste of time. The revelation of "who dun it" was extremely contrived, but by that point I was more than ready to be done.
If you are an Outlander addict withdrawing from Jamie and Clair this is a little bit of a bandaid. I would not recommend it to any one who is not a huge Outlander fan already. I am a HUGE fan of the Outlander series so I enjoyed visiting with Lord John only for that reason. Thinking more, I will also say that I enjoyed learning bits about history through this book.
I have read some negative reviews based on the characters sexual preference. There is some discussion of things sexual in nature but nothing really explicit. Any one complaining about that aspect is just homophobic.
