bookshelves: partly-read

I can't recall why I put this on my to-read list, but it appeared in my e-book holds. I have to say, the e-book is not treating me well. I just can't sit with a heavy ipad in my hand and read from the screen. Sometimes it feels like work, sometimes it feels like I should be skimming for the sound-bite. I can't suspend my disbelief, and my focus is scattered. And then the time is up and it just disappears. So, I started this several times, and it is well-written and evocative of a time and place, has all the makings of a family saga, but in a good way. Or, maybe I'm just a sucker for tales set in Africa, with passionately skilled doctors and pregnant nurse-nuns. Hmmm.

I will pick this up again sometime, I hope, just to find out what happens. The flashback technique works well with this author.

Sandra I felt like this book was way over-rated! Didn't hold my interest either! I forced myself through the entire book, but it definitely wasn't the most enjoyable thing I've ever read.
