really liked it

Based on a real woman's life this book relates life as an upper class family in Japan. I would recommend this book to those people interested in ancient Japanese history or those interested in multicultural poetry. Being one of the latter I enjoyed learning about the relevance of poetry as communication in 11th century Japan. After reading this I'm motivated to read the translated Tales of Genji which is the book the main character is credited with penning.
