Better than 2 stars but not sure if it merits 3. I'm a big fan of Linda Lael Miller, but this one was a bit too generic and slow for my taste. The first 75 % of the book is about the often awkward interactions between Steven Creed, attorney turned rancher who is raising his best friend's son and Melissa the town prosecutor with a history of failed romances. When not having sex, the two are plagued with doubts. Melissa frets a lot about her ability to take a chance on Steven and risk the pain if things don't work out. Steven has his own reasonable doubts about her ability to commit, never mind that the story happens in the course of a few weeks and most people would want to know each other longer before thinking long term commitment. The last quarter of the book picks up the pace with a suspense sub plot and the introduction of Steven's twin cousins who will each have their own book this year.

There was one surprising, huge editing error where Steven represents a character and then the next time we see that character, they have never met before. The way books are edited these days is really a disgrace. Otherwise a pleasant if not especially exciting story of two decent people falling in love.
