There's a fundamental problem when, 60 pages in, you have absolutely no idea who the central character is. Oh, I know that he's named Thomas Cromwell, but I've got no sense of his character. I'm sure that it's there, woven carefully into the story, but I can't see it. I'm reading and not absorbing.

Story? I know it's an exciting one - that period of history is - but I simply have no idea what is going on. I'm reading and not absorbing.

Time to put the book down. I'll be charitable and say 'it's me, not you'. My frame of mind obviously isn't in the right place. Maybe (maybe) I'll pick the book back up one day and I'll get it. Time to stop for now though...
