Claire Van Vliet, book artist extraordinaire and recipient of the MacArthur Genius grant, writes a book describing how a few of her and her colleague's artists' books were bound. This book is not for the novice bookbinder. These directions on how to bind her books involving atypical techniques of slits, slots and weaves. Books are typically bound using adhesives, thread and board; the books described will not be. After following the black-and-white drawings and detailed instructions, the reader/crafter will have results that are engineering marvels.

The beginning bookbinder would be better served with one of Michael Jacobs or Alisa Golden books.
