This is an amazing story to read for the first few days at a new school. Just as Boomer had to be shown around school, students have to be shown around the school. Many people learn better by teaching, so after students have a decent understanding of the school layout have them bring a stuffed animal of choice to show around the school. Incorporate this into writing. Have students share what they thought was important to show their pet and why they felt that was an important part of the school. Students will love to connect the book to life and will enjoy feeling like the tour guide during the day.
