I started reading this in my kid's school library while waiting for a meeting to start - and then I briefly considered asking if I could check it out from the elementary school library. Instead I got it from the local library (good move, I think).

This story is about a boy and his family who move to Alcatraz in 1935 so his Dad can be a guard. I wanted the story to be more about Al Capone but he's way more on the sidelines, a kind of Boo Radley character they know is in there but they never see. I loved Moose (the boy) and felt like his parents and most of the adults were pretty mean, but the kids on Alcatraz were funny and for the most part sweet.

It's a nice little story and I'm glad I ended up reading this instead of any other book I could have picked up that day to look through in the library.
