I thought I would like this more than I did, but it was just ok for me. I wish I could give it 3 and 1/2 stars! So glad I wasn't a woman in pre-revolution China, in which the story takes place. Life for females was, to say the least, deadly to be born as such, and just plain hard! I know I wouldn't take well to another woman being introduced into my home, and I was disappointed that the main character did so. It seems he prided himself on being honest, hardworking, and above reproach in all things until he is exposed to his lovely, little Pear Blossom. I was glad to see that his wife, O-lan, stood her ground despite being neglected and unappreciated. She was, by far, my favorite character, and a credit to her sex.
