In the words of my mother-in-law, Phillips is definitely one of my “guitly pleasures.” Her books are fantastic and have great stories and multi-faceted characters.

This book was a difficult book to put down once I got into it. The story follows Cornelia “Nealy” Case, a recently widowed first lady who is tired of Washington and politics and wants to be on her own for a while. After sneaking out of the White House, she ends up having her car, and money, stolen while eating at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Which, incidentally, is where she meets Mat Jorik, who is in the process of taking two girls to their grandmother’s home in Iowa. These two have amazing chemistry and the dialogue is priceless.
