Sometimes you just have to read a book that is fun, uncomplicated, cute, and just gives one an overall good feeling. This is "Still Life with Elephant".

Neelie Sterling has a degree in psychiatry, however, her real love is animals. She is a horse trainer and her husband, Matt, is a veterinarian.

Neelie has a problem in that she does not focus on what people are saying to her, or she just doesn't hear them correctly. For example, Matt's veterinary business is growing and he tells Neelie that, "He needs to get a colleague". Neelie thinks he is saying, "He needs to get a collie". So begins a series of major problems for Neelie.

Matt hires a beautiful young veterinarian named Holly that he has an affair with. A divorce is in progress even though Neelie still has stron feelings for Matt. Neelie and Matt find themselves thrown together when they are hired to bring back a wounded elephant from Africa.

Neelie falls in love with Margo the elephant and her baby Abbie. She works hard to bring them both back to healtgh and their trust in her.

Neelie finds herself falling in love with Tom, a very wealthy businessman, who heads an organization to save the elephants of Africa.

It is against this background of her life starting to fall apart that Neelie finds hope and solace in caring for her elephants. She finds new meaning in life and a new chance at love.

Judy Reene Singer gives the reader a lot to think about at the end of her book that leads into her next book, "An Inconvenient Elephant".
