A wonderfully disturbing and insightful read from the mind of Anne Brooke. The slow, and expected, decline from the lead character was wonderfully handled, although it's beginning to worry me how easily Anne writes for characters with such intense neuroses. Jamie in 'The Hit List', a man with a deep need for acceptance, hiding it behind a façade of passive aggressiveness, and now we have Michael, also a man in deep need of acceptance, a man who is inherently at odds with himself and everyone around him. Even those who stand by him. A very engrossing book.
