it was amazing

Hearing the phrase "wordless graphic novel" makes me instantly skeptical. The format is based on the skillful combination of words and images, and the writer in me is loathe to admit it's the art that carries most of the burden. How dare someone go and prove it! Words here would have only hurt the finished product, taking away from the feeling of isolation and alien-ness. Tan's characters say everything they need to say through facial expressions and gestures and no narration could better convey what his amazing landscapes do.
Outstanding. Original. Moving. See how words fail?
