Let's just say...I'm glad this was a free download. Because if I paid for it, I'd be sorely sorry.

Despite times of book-nerdery, I'm a sucker for mystery and crime novels. It's like food - while I know salads and lean proteins are good for me, sometimes I just want to binge on twinkies and ho hos. Pulp crime novels are like my reading twinkies and ho hos, but this was like a stale twinkie you find under your bed, smashed by piles of forsaken junk, and take a bite out of anyway. But, hey, it still satisfies an urge, right?

There's not much really to analyze here. Weak, shallow characters; bizarre story line; uber-'convenient' plot mechanics that drive the story through unbelievable turns of events; ridiculous concluding scene and trite happy ending, complete with a cowyboy rescue.

Then again...I read the whole darn thing in a day, so judge for yourself whether I'm being snobby about a book that kept my attention rapt.
