It took me as long to read this book as it did to complete my entire undergrad degree and have two children. But I still enjoyed it - possibly precisely BECAUSE I could put it down for weeks at a time and never really lose the plot, metaphorically speaking at least. I do have to agree with a couple of other brave reviewers that it could have been more succinct. If I'm honest, I didn't really care much for Stingo and his botched attempts to win Sophie's attentions, nor his tortured identity crisis slash career mis-adventures, and the whole love-triangle thing was beyond me too.

But Sophie's story, like pulling teeth though it was to actually find in amongst all that other guff, was worth it in the end. And is reason alone to persevere.

However a note for those without the indulgence of years, read the first 50 odd pages, then skip to the last 50. That's where you'll find what you're looking for.
