I won an advanced copy in a goodreads giveaway.
Recovery Road is about a young girl (Madeline) who is in rehab. While in there she meets a guy named Stewart. They fall for each other very quickly and when she leaves rehab they decide to keep in touch and get together once he gets out. The story mainly takes place once she leaves rehab. It revolves around her trying to figure out how to live a new sober life and also around her complicated relationship with Stewart.
When I first started this book I felt like there was nothing likable about the main character Madie. She complained a lot and seemed to whine and think all her problems were the most important in the world. I was shocked that by the end of this book I cared so deeply for her. I never thought I would feel so involved in this book. I thought it was going to be a light read despite it's plot but I found it to be anything but. I loved going through Madie's ups and downs with her and seeing her figure out how to build this new life for herself. It felt very believable and not at all contrived like I thought it would seeing as she is such a young girl being called an addict. Her relationship with Stewart ended up being so much more complex than it seemed it would be when they meet in rehab.
It's hard to review this book without giving anything away so I'll just say that this book was a hugely pleasant surprise that managed to bring tears to my eyes throughout reading it and also break my heart in the end. It's a must read!
