The final book in the Mike Hammer series moves forward to a post 911 Manhattan where the bad guys are no longer the mob, but religious fanatics and terrorists. An aging, and close to retirement, Mike Hammer gets involved in the fight over a religious artifact along with his two best buddies Velda and Captain Pat Chambers. Much of the old style is there, but with a few updates to make the novel current. If you have read most of the others then you will probably want to read this one, it's worth the effort.
One interesting note on this book is that it was unfinished at the time of Spillane's death, But only a week before he entrusted the almost complete manuscript and all his notes to his good friend, and collaborating author Max Allen Collins. This was written as the final Mike Hammer novel and Spillane wanted to put a final end to the series, cross the T's and dot the I's. So many authors pass away and leave there fans hanging, Spillane didn't want that. All I can say about Mr Spillane is "Thanks buddy."
