Heart of the Volcano is a story about Aera, a young priestess with extraordinary powers, who finds herself in a predicament. In order to become a full priestess, she must execute a prisoner who has blasphemed their religion. She discovers it is her childhood friend, Coram, who possesses extraordinary talents of his own. Aera's decision is at the heart of this fantasy/romance novel.

If you are looking for a quick read, Imogen Howson's novel is a prime choice. The novel is mostly action with some steamy romance scenes interspersed. While the brevity does have a lot to commend it, it did restrict some of the engagement in Ms. Howson's world and kept the characters a bit two dimensional. All in all, though, it is an entertaining read for a rainy afternoon.
