As is the case with all of Fiona McIntosh's books it is extremely brutal and violent - sickeningly so. I could understand if it was crucial to the story, but no it wasn't. Killing children in such a way is NOT necessary.

Two stars for the relationship between Lazar and Anna, I really felt it and yearned for them to be together.

The rest of the writing however, very clumsy - I found myself spending more time thinking about how each paragraph could be written better and actually DOING it, then marveling in the story.

I did read the others though, because they were a gift, and I really wanted to see what happened to Lazar and Anna.
