Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives

This book is a collection of musings about the "afterlife," each 2-3 pages long. For me, some are quite thought-provoking, some are simply boring, and some are intellectually offensive. Overall an interesting and worthwhile read; one of those books that expands the mind by leading you down paths you wouldn't normally follow.
I loved the first three: Sum, Egalitaire, Circle of Friends. I felt these were the best examples among many stories that seem meant to make us think about our lives and be thankful for what life is, and be careful about wishing for a different kind of life that might actually be miserable. Another favorite, maybe my favorite of all, was Prism. Perpetuity was also interesting; it reminded me of a discussion of death by C.S. Lewis, in which one of the aspects of death is deliverance, because living forever in this earthly existence would be hell. There were others that I liked, just not my favorites. Enough of the stories were enjoyable to make it worth reading through the book.
