I like mysteries in general. The last time I read this book I was in high school. I wasn't so far removed from the time period then, but now I had to laugh at the absence of technology. I couldn't even remember the story so it was like reading it for the first time.

The rest of my thoughts maybe a little bit spoilerish.....

Kinsey Millhone, female private investigator, is hired by her client in this first book of the series to find the real killer of her husband. The client has served time for the murder, but just find out who really killed her husband. There are a whole host of suspects that had reason to kill her philandering sleaze bucket of a divorce attorney husband.

I enjoyed the investigation part of the book. The writing almost became clinical too much, though. I wish I had learned more about Kinsey, but I expect that the author provides more info about her in later books. I found her easy sexual involvement with one of the suspects strange for a seasoned investigator. Actually, the raport she developed with many of the suspects seemed strange but, on the other hand, clearly magnified Kinsey's self-doubt and humanized her.

I felt a little bit cheated by the conclusion of the book. The chase scene was a little too long. I would have preferred a little bit of a bad guy monologue at the end. That's just my style.....
