This book was excellent, but it was a difficult one for me to get into.
Dr. Jane Darlington is just realizing that she wants a child. She’s 34 years old, a very successful physicist, and has enough money to support her and a child. All that’s missing? The man. So she attempts agrees to be the “birthday present” hooker for a football player and ends up getting knocked up in the process. Turns out, Chicago Star’s quarterback Cal Bonner isn’t interested in siring any children to women he’s not married to. So guess what? He forces her to marry him and moves them to his small hometown.
The main problem I had with this book really had to do with the dialogue in the first 100 pages or so of the book. Cal and Jane really had some knock-down, drag-out fights that left me wondering if these two would ever reconcile. I also had some doubts about their ability to get past all that baggage and get to some of their redeeming qualities. SEP didn’t disappoint, though, and sticking through to the end of the book was a good thing. These two ended up being just what the doctor ordered and both became stronger because of the sparring. Not necessarily the way I’d want to start a relationship, but I think it’s possible that it could work out. Good stuff!
