I mostly liked this book, and found it an interesting read, but there were some things that didn't work for me, mostly relating to the love story. If the book had either had no romance and more debating the situation between workers and factory owner and Margaret finding a place for herself and interesting things to do with her life, or a more developed romance with Margaret and Mr. Thornton talking a lot more, working out their differences and getting to know each other first-hand instead of through other people I would have liked it a lot more. As it was, I kept comparing the love story to Pride and prejudice, with two at first antagonistic people, a botched first proposal, and then a long stretch of separation and changing of opinions, and then finally working it out when both had lost some of their prejudices and their pride, and unfortunately I prefer the Austen version.
