** spoiler alert ** poetry,metaphors,and Greek morals(family,friends,home&loyalty are the most important to them at this time in history)
*Epic->history to legend,legend to myth.
->purpose to entertain and to teach.
*Epic hero->larger than life status(super-hero like)
->his traits are those valued by his society
*Odyssey->the Odyssey is about Odysseus
->written down by Homer(around 800 BC)
->about the return from Troy(1200BC)
*Themes->1.loyalty&faritiude
2.ideal of a strong body&a strong mind
3.obdience to the Laws of the Gods
4.good wins over evil
5.wandering hero

*Hubris- exisive happiness(in a really bad way.)*the Epic starts in Medius Res(when a piece of wrighting starts in the middle.)

•"Invocation to the Muse"
in the opening verses addresses the Muse of epic poetry,he also asks her help in telling the great tale of Odysseus.Odysseus is described as a "man skilled in all ways of contending,-" which means he has strenght of mind and body,ideal to a Greek.
