Grunwald's brilliant account of the "taming" of south Florida and the rerouting of its water by corporations, sugar and railroad barons, get-rich-quick land-scheme con artists, and mendacious politicians over the last century. It's a tragi-comic story out of a Carl Hiaasen novel (in fact, many of them) made less savory and amusing because it's fact, not fiction. Highly recommended along with Mike Tidwell's classic "Bayou Farewell."
