This is a series of four stories with the common plot element of a magic library card. The library card conceit is, frankly, probably the weakest part of the book; two of the four stories could easily have been told without it. Overall, though, the stories display Spinelli's strengths as a writer -- they're sad, funny, and immensely readable. "Mongoose" and "April Mendez" were my favorites.
