In an effort to support Latina authors and their work, I read this book. I was not disappointed. I loved it, loved its flaws, loved its strengths, loved it. I loved the style Alisa picked for the novel. Each chapter is told in first person by one of the six main characters. As a result, we come to know each one of her protagonists both through their own storytelling and through the views of the other five. The novel does have a very chick lit feel to it, but it's fun and not trying to be a literary masterpiece, so who cares? Alisa does an excellent job of showing that Latinos are diverse cosmetically and politically. I love the parts where Lauren has to deal with her boss' subtle racism and ignorance. I love the sexy scene between Rebecca and her love interest. Women reading this can ask the whole Sex and the City question: are you a Carrie or Samantha, etc? Are you a Lauren...more
