Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid, #3)

***Re-read with friends in August 2011 in prep for the series finale***
I'm loving this series even better the second time around. All of the minor complaints that I had the first time reading aren't even an issue now because I know what's going on and now I can just enjoy the characters and mystery of what's going on.
***original review***
Before I get to the good stuff, let me get my two complaints out there :
1. This was the third book in a row that started slow. Having to wait several chapters for the story to pick up really bugs me.
2. Too many characters. I can't keep track of who people are and what race they are. I need a glossary to remember who is what and if they're good or bad.
Now to the good stuff :
I love Georgie. She's my kind of woman. She lives and loves and has regrets, but rarely does she back down from taking what she wants...unless it's Seth. He's sort of her undoing - the only part of her that brings out the last shred of humanity still left inside the succubus.
It's hard not to appreciate the way Georgina's succubus is portrayed. If you had lived thousands of years and had seen and done it all, you're going to view the world a bit differently than the average Joe. Of course she's going to have no problem approaching men and taking what she needs to feed her soul. Of course she's going to participate in voyeuristic activities and other things that most people would shy away from. She's a sex-loving, soul-stealing succubus after all. I like that Mead chose not to water the character down by making her too sappy. Of course, Georgina still has the same desires for love and family that many women have, but she's also a realist who knows what is and isn't possible with the path she's chosen.
I love Carter the good angel. I hope he doesn't turn bad. I really do.
The ending was sort of sad, but this is a series, so anything is possible. There's still time for things to be undone.

Quotes Stacia ~ Mistress of Mediocrity Liked
“Me, I always wanted frost power.”
“Frost power?”
“Yeah.” Seth gestured dramatically toward my coffee table. “If we’re talking superhero abilities. If I had frost power, I could wave my hand, and suddenly that whole thing would be covered in ice.”
“Not frost?”
“Same difference.”
“How would frost and/or ice power help you fight crime?”
“Well, I don’t know that it would. But it’d be cool.”

I realllly want to finish Drink, Slay, Love because the book is so much fun, but I'm buddy reading it with my friend Brit and she went AWOL on me!So I guess I'll read this tomorrow, but may not get to book 4 yet. I should get
and
done for the groups I mod and not slack like I did with Covet...Are you reading A Lady's Lesson in the near future?
I started reading Gamblers #1 by LK and it's so slow (painfully slow). It's so bad I keep forgetting the title of the book, lol! I'm going to start A Lady's Lesson tomorrow, so yep. I've got plenty to read so I'll just jump back in when you guys are ready for #5. Oh, Vixen (Flapper book) looks good. Can't wait for your review.
I think that I'm going to end up being a fan of more of the recent Kleypas books. I read book 1 of Bow Street Runners and it was just okay for me, but that was a much older series like the Gamblers.
I think i'm in the same group that's why I really want to read her Contemp. Romance because those are newer. You know I can read fast but i've been reading this book for days... Ugh!

I wish I was able to re-read more series before new installments come out, but that never ending tbr pile doesn't allow it. This one was important for me to re-read because it had a lot of details surrounding the mystery, similar to the Fever series. I'm picking up things the second time around that I missed the first time. Well that, and Richelle Mead can do no wrong by me, and I miss her books when a new one hasn't come out for a while. I may try to skim Vampire Academy before Bloodlines comes out, actually.Richard, I love this series as much as VA (which I know you've read). It's more adult in nature, but just as good.
I love Carter too! He's my favorite character in the series. I don't think he turns bad, because the very last line in Succubus Revealed is his.
I did, but I'm trying not to think about it. Some of the time we have the same feelings on books, and some of the time we are polar opposites. I think she only gave GK mostly 2 and 3 stars because of the cheating and I loved the series for example, so I'm going to read Bloodlines and try to keep positive.A few other friends who got the arc loved the book, so I might love it too. I've also always felt like Mead's first books in every series she writes are more about setting up the world and you don't get to see how good the books are until further in the series, so that's also something to consider. I'm going to go into the read hopeful because I really am excited to see more of the VA world. :)
oh that's hopeful, none of my friends got the arch so i've only seen her review. Thanks for putting it into perspective for me because I was freaking out a little.
No wonder my ears were burning! Yeah, Stacia and I sometimes are right on the mark together and sometimes we're total opposites. I think everyone should check out Bloodlines for themselves...sorry to put a damper on things. :( I haven't had much luck recently with anticipated titles from favorite authors.

I have yet to read a first book in any of her series that was not about heavy world and character building. The first time I read GK I only gave Succubus Blues a 3 star review because I was frustrated with all of the info, then I went back and read it the second time and it was easily a 4 to 4.5 star read because I knew what was going on and could just enjoy the story.I only gave the first VA book a 3 star rating as well (and look at how many other 4 and 5 stars I gave the rest of the series), but want to go back and re-read book one, and knowing me I'll probably give it a better rating the second time around because of my love for the series as a whole and I won't be fumbling as much with the first book.
Same with Dark Swan, etc...
Wendy Darling wrote: "No wonder my ears were burning! Yeah, Stacia and I sometimes are right on the mark together and sometimes we're total opposites. I think everyone should check out Bloodlines for themselves...sorry ..."It's no biggie. I was telling her that sometimes we're right there on some books and other times we're not, so it's hard to know if you'll like a book until reading it.
For all we know, I might be frustrated too.

Stacia and a few other friends plan of reading this as a buddy read when it comes out so there is not worry that we won't pick it up. Please tell me I did not offend you in anyway Wendy? Because that was never my intention.
Oh no, no! I was just kidding. It's always fun to compare notes about books, even when we disagree! I'm all for love, not shove on GoodReads. (And everywhere else, too.) :)
Hah, I look forward to hearing what you both think. I'm totally aware I sometimes like books people dislike and vice versa. Stacia still offers me coffee and pie no matter what.
