On the cover of this book it says that it is "perfect for fans of the Hunger Games". Now, I've only read part-way through the Hunger Games, but I must say that what little I did read I enjoyed immensely more than this book. Not only was 'Matched' incredibly slow-moving, focusing mainly on the protagonist's mixed up feelings about boys, reading, and society in general, Condie's futuristic society just felt forced and two-dimensional. Obviously there will be fans who love it for it's romantic premise, but even the romance feels juvenile as opposed to interesting. I was not rooting for the "heroine" (if she could even be called that) at all. By the end, I was thankful it was finally over, although Condie leaves it pretty open-ended, presumably for sequels. Hopefully she'll improve the story if she does write any more books with the same characters, but I doubt that I'll be reading any of her future books.
