Book three of Drizzit's never-ending journey finds him at the surface world at last, his adventures in the underground realm where he grew up over. His heart is heavy with sacrifice, his mind confused on what he should do and with no destination set, he wanders the land, trying to find a place he calls home. He soon comes to learn, however, that nobody trusts a dark elf. Humans and Dwarves alike try to kill him in misunderstanding, especially since he can't speak their language. It takes a blind ranger, a love of nature, and a relentless bounty hunter for Drizzit to learn the ways of the surface world and how dangerous, and beautiful, it can be. At the very end of this adventure, he makes the first of his life-long friends, a dwarf and his daughter, and together they set off for a new lands.
