I gave this book 2 stars by virtue of the fact that it was a James Bond novel. It lacked in the action and adventure department. It lacked in the plot development department. And it lacked in the excitement department. In fact, the usual unbelievable James Bond plot was replaced with an outrageously stupid plot where the antagonist plans on robbing billions from Fort Knox by using a nerve gas and a nuke. He assures his colleagues that the fallout won't harm them as they remove a thousand ton of gold. Seriously?!? I'd prefer to see a bad guy who doesn't explain himself to his adversary but rather acts. I know Bond isn't going to lose, but how many times did Goldfinger capture him or have him in his clutches only to let him escape somehow. He even goes so far as to trust Bond for a time while revealing his plan for taking Fort Knox. Terrible. I may go back and change the two stars to one.
