Federica de Cesco at her best - she has the gift of weaving magic with words and knows how to use it well. Poetic language and vivid descriptions give the book a wonderful atmosphere which combined with the strong character of Tomoe and the (for me, anyway) irresistable setting in 12th century Japan makes for a highly enjoyable read. This was the first, but certainly not the last time I read this story.
