Crank was simultaneously too difficult to read and too riveting to put down. Hopkins gives a poignant description of addiction in all of its psuedo-sexiness and sleaze. Kristina/Bree is realized with pity, beauty, and harsh reality. This may be one of the most important books in the genre.
