First of the Aurelia Zen novels. Set in Perugia. Zen is transferred from a backwater pen-pushing posting to sort out the failure of the local authorities to find the kidnapped industrialist Ruggieor Miletti after political pressure is applied to the Roman centre and other policeman is available. It is rather slow to start and does have some Agatha Christie touches about it, although I would put my money on Miss Marples. I found the ending unconvincing.
