Jasmine

by Bharati Mukherjee
Jasmine is the story about a young woman's struggle in America. The strength of the novel is in the beauty of the language. Mukherjee poetic narrative is so strong and flows so well that it is hard to believe you're reading a novel. The biggest issue with the novel is with the plot. None of the events seem realistic nor are they very interesting, which is unfortunate because the writing is so good.
