really liked it

Not so much a horror novel as it is a disaster movie in book form, I enjoyed this much more than Carrion Comfort, which I read earlier this year. Set in the Arctic wastelands in the 1840's, the novel focuses on an English sea crew and their search for the elusive Northwest Passage. It is a very character heavy--and I wouldn't get too attached to any of them--but ultimately it boils down to a bleak and unsavory survivalist tale, with a giant man-eating polar bear thrown in for good measure, and just the right amount of blood and guts.
