I'm going to have to drop this book and start it again some other time. It's hard to get past your initial impression that the book is about unpleasant people doing unpleasant things to each other. Once I had, I started to get severely annoyed by the audiobook performance.

The performer's rendition of Patty's "lilting laugh" was like the grating of a badly-tuned violin. And the Indian accent he uses for Lalitha's voice is cringe-worthy.

I'm giving this a "meh" for now. I think I would like it a lot better if I started again from the beginning, and read the book instead of listening to the audiobook.

But then again, how many books about middle-class people having middle-class problems does a person really need to read, in order to make their life complete?
