This was one of the better Inspector Lynley books I've read so far. The relationships of the main characters are probably the weakest point for me, especially the Deborah/Simon pregnancy problems which get really boring really quickly, but I liked the actual mystery in this book and found its denouement to be interesting and unexpected.

This book could have used some more time with Havers, who is a nice foil to Lynley and his uppercrust buddies. I think at this early stage of the series, perhaps George didn't yet have a handle on how to incorporate her fully into the plot. Maybe later in the series she will see more action again.

One complaint I have about Elizabeth George is her apparent fascination with architecture. There should be a glossary for all the architectural lingo she throws into every novel.

A fun and easy read, especially if you don't take it too seriously.
