It's the far future and almost everyone has had surgery of some sort of genetic engineering and body manipulation. Whispr is a crook on the run trying to find out what the stolen item is. He's presented as being someone stupid, but he's not--he's got practical life saving skills. He eventually joins up with a doctor who's found something in a young woman's repaired brain that shouldn't be there. Unfortunately, wherever they go disaster and death follow. This is the first of three and I eagerly await the next! Foster has created a believable world of environmental disaster and survival.
